The Addams Family Then and Now

Duna duna duna duna snap, snap. One of the most iconic television shows with one of the most famous theme songs has had an upgrade. The Addams Family, the classic Halloween show, has now come from the television and onto the big screen with the 2019 adaptation of the show into a movie. The movie has a large and famous cast, including Snoop Dogg, Charlize Theron, Finn Wolfhard and Nick Kroll. The movie follows the family from the very beginning when Morticia and Gomez (voiced by Charlize Theron and Oscar Isaac respectively) get married and become outcasts from their previous home. We then continue our journey by watching this “kooky” and “spooky” family grow and settle into their asylum home. We also get to see their sweet interactions with one other, albeit slightly unconventional. In this way, the movie changed the stigma of the monsters being scary by making them a normal family who love each other. Much like the 90’s television show, the theme of acceptance, being yourself and not judging other people is carried throughout the plot of the movie. The show continues to have the same values as always. Although the movie plot could have been more fleshed out, the nostalgic feeling of the characters is something you can’t pass up. The plot is slightly predictable, as the themes are very similar to those of the television show, but the movie was very pleasant and enjoyable to watch. The movie uses 3D in a way that most movies are unable to. The movie comes alive in 3D and the effects are incredible, as is the art style. Unlike the television show, the movie has a lot more visual detail. The animation is creative, but still has a nostalgic feel to it. This movie is for fans of animated movies, as it does the genre justice. The creator of the show is named Charles Addams and that’s where the show got its name from. The show only ran for three seasons, but the watcher became very attached to the characters and the characters were voted a top 10 television family by TV Guide. Despite the macabre details of their lives, the family has such a great dynamic that you cannot help but love the movie. So, if you are looking for something creepy but fun to watch this Halloween, this movie is it.
